The material for this unit will complete your study of rhythm, meter, divisions (also called subdivisions), and tempo. Tempo and meter are found in most tonal compositions and are indeed some of the most recognizable components of Western music.
The terms you have learned in the course thus far are quite helpful when describing music from different cultures and different periods of time. Developing an awareness of varied styles of music and the vocabulary to convey how music differs is something the discerning listener has cultivated. I hope that the few things you are learning in this course will motivate you to a life-long study of music. Listen to music from different cultures and varied time periods and discern and describe the differences.
