Helpful Hints for the Final Papers
1. Download the template for the paper. Rename it correctly now, but
add "Draft1" to your first draft. After each draft change the last
number. (i.e. Draft2). When done editing the paper, remove "Draft#."
2. Print out the paper requirements including the matrix (these are at
the end of the template for the paper). Refer to these at least once a
day. Read the requirements for
papers
and examine the sample paper for formatting (

pdf).
3. Gather your sources for citations. This should include a search of
materials on the course website, the Cook Library
Music
Subject Guide, and other sources.
4. Construct outlines for the papers. The Summaries Paper is the first
part of your final paper. You will not need to have a conclusion to
this, since the conclusion will be in your final paper. Your outlines
might be along these lines:
FIRST HALF (Summaries Paper)
• Introductory paragraph ending
with the thesis statement. Make it interesting.
• Scenario one summary
materials. Don't restate the scenario in the
assignment. Instead summarize the
various issues. Demonstrate your understanding of the legal and ethical
issues. Provide a transitional statement to move to your next scenario.
• Scenario two summary
materials. After this END HERE--no conclusion or transition needed.
SECOND HALF (Solutions Paper)
First revise your summaries paper and address any issues raised by Dr.
Ewell. Paste the text and citations into the new template.
• Provide a transitional
paragraph or statement linking the summaries of the issues to your
solutions.
• Present your solutions to the
first scenario in a convincing manner. Avoid moral statements. Then a
transitional statement.
• Solutions to the second
scenario.
• Concluding paragraph.
5. Reference each citation in your papers. Add more as you continue to
write your papers.
6. Polish and edit your work. Refer to the sample paper. Go to the
writing center for help. Have someone read and suggest changes in your
paper.
