Video Fundamentals

Most of the videos provided in your course are given in at least two formats. You will need to choose the appropriate format for your computer system.

The videos created by me were made over several years by means of half a dozen different software applications. As a result the files are saved in a variety of formats.

You will need to choose the format that works best for your device:

"player" designates videos that are played by an embedded player on the website. This should work on most computers and hand-held devices.

"mp4" designates videos that are in that format. Most Mac computers, iPhone devices, and handheld phones will directly play this. PC computers will need to download these files.

"flash" designates .flv videos or an older format of the player that used to be widely compatible on PC computers and handheld devices. The changes in HTML5 since 2014, however, mean that most devices will need to download this file type.

"wmv" designates windows media videos that will need to be downloaded for playing on PC computers or handheld devices. My android phone will also directly play these files.

The rule of two applies here! Make certain you have at least two video players or devices so that you can access the files multiple ways.

Videos linked to YouTube, however, are only available in the format on that site. There are only a few of these videos in your course, but you will need to find a way to view these.
