This week you will learn about many important and useful audio tools. We are decades away (1970s-1980s) from the time when gates, filters, EQ, and routing were all hardware components. Many of these components were called “plug-ins” because they were literally “plugged in.” Now digital audio workstations such as Audacity have these components integrated as part of the software. In 1995 you would have spent tens of thousands of dollars of have the capability now available in Audacity. Here in Audacity you have all these components conveniently packaged as plug-ins or effects.
