[music: Galliard Sonata]
Welcome Mac users! I am having a lot of fun here. I
am borrowing a Department of Music MacBook Pro. I am “hunting around.” I
am using Screencast-o-matic for making this video. So let’s see if you can
bear with me since I am not a Mac user. Let me find all I need here.
First I want to create a new movie. We will choose
“No Theme.” OK, I got it. OK, give my movie a title.
“MUSC116FinalProject.” OK. Someday I will have to find out where that went
to!
OK, so now I want to import my media. You probably
can’t see it on this screen. I see that I can import an .avi video. So
that is what I have just done. Here we find our timeline. Isn’t that cool!
This iMovie is really pretty nifty. It can zoom all the way through here.
OK, so my movie is now on this line here. I need to select it all; so I am
just dragging that. I press edit, copy. Then I am going to the movie area
down here; edit, paste. Did that work? Yes, there it is! So my movie is
pasted down there. Cool, OK.
Now I have to get my sound track. I am going to
import media, demo. I want to bring this in. It looks like I can bring in
a .wav file. OGG—it won’t take. But it will take for the final (project)
an .aif. Let’s bring in the .wav file. OK. I am not quite sure why, I will
get (again) my project .wav file. Here is my project .wav file. Let’s
select the whole thing here. I can drag it there; put it in. Alright, very
good. So let’s pick this scene right here and see how well that works.
[video plays with music and sounds]
OK, very good. Let’s say that I also wanted to add
another sound effect here. I click on this little thing to import. This is
another sound effect. I think this is glass breaking. This is the one
here. First off I am going to select the whole thing. Then I can hold down
my index finger and I can drag it there. OK. Let’s put it in a different
spot here. This is really cool.
[movie starts with music]
There is the breaking glass. Let’s say that this is
not quite in the right place. I can zip through the video and look through
it. Let’s say that I wanted the breaking glass right at that point. So I
am going to drag the breaking glass right over here at this point. Let’s
see how well that works.
[movie starts with breaking glass]
Oh, yeah, that is a good place for the breaking
glass.
So Mac users, because iMovie has some wonderful
features that the equivalent PC free thing doesn’t have, what you might
want to do is to add your special effects afterwards. So perhaps you want
to create your musical track first and afterwards add in the special
effects: the breaking glass or other things like that. It is really up to
you how you want to do that. The PC users have the alternative of adding
these more easily in Reaper than you are going to be able to do, so this
might be a good solution.
Now, I am very happy with this video. I have in all
my sound effects. The sound is linked to my video, the movie. So I now go
to “file,” “share.” If you do “email,” it will email a small version to
you. This is plenty big for email. But let’s say you wanted to save this
instead on your computer. Go the “share,” (you can share with YouTube or
Vimeo), but let’s go to “file.”
OK, please, please, please do not share a large file.
This is too large. Let’s go to medium resolution. Estimated…well that is
even quite a bit. We are going to go for “low.” There, that is better. I
really don’t want much over 100 Megabits (MB) for these files. So this
will be just fine. Let’s go to “next.” This is where you will name your
file, the correct name. So please look on the website. For now I am just
going to save it as this. Now I am going to save. It begins saving the
file now.
So, wow! This must be a great feeling of relief for
you. The course is almost done. Be sure to complete your report out
properly and get all of that off to me. I am looking forward to seeing
what you have done. Bye.
