Alright, so in this video I will finish up my
Composition 4 project. I will quickly record the B section,
then show you how to add the components together, mix it, and
create the final file.
So once again I will save the project as…I want to save this
with a special name here. Let’s call this “Comp4_BSection.” Go
ahead and save that. Then I need to import that sound file
that I was going to use. Import->Audio, I have it in my sound
files. The file I wanted to import for that is this spooky
atmosphere. OK.
Here is the spooky atmosphere while I do my speaking over
that, my speech over that. Now I am going to use the same
method for recording voice that I used in the prior video.
OK, so my voice part is done. I need to trim off this part
here. Left click, drag over, and trim that. Notice that it
moves my file. I wanted … a little bit of that sound starting
first. Now I suspect that the balance is not very good here. I
think that it is a little loud here (lower track) let’s take
down the gain. I will have to bring up the gain this
particular track (upper). So let’s have a listen.
Oh, I have to take off the mute there. Let’s try that again.
Let’s have a listen to these two track together.
OK, well that is not bad. This is probably a little loud,
let’s try that again.
OK, that is very nice. That is just what I wanted to do. Let’s
leave that as is. I am not going to put reverb on this voice.
I have reverb on the other one and I think it will be a nice
contrast.
Now I am going to save the project as. Give it another name.
This is my second version of that—give it number 2. Now I am
going to export this file, export this audio to my sound
files. This composition 4, section B, number 2. OK I will go
ahead and save that.
OK, before I put all of the components together, let’s review
what the format of this composition was going to be like. I
want to start with Section A, I might have a sound that fades
into that. Then have a Section B in the middle. I need to do a
cross fade between these two and then cross fade between B and
A again. Then move into the Coda with the Alien Alarm.
Excellent.
First I begin by saving my project. Let me call this
composition 4, final. This is the last version. Import File, I
want to go to my audio files. OK, the alarm is going to be at
the end. I am going to start off with this spooky atmosphere.
The aiff files are a Mac version of wave files so they are not
lossy, they are not reduced in size. Yes, I want to make a
copy of that. I have this right here in the beginning. I want
to import now my A section. My A section is Voice. I open
that.
Let’s first align this a little bit. I have that sound
happening and then I want to have this sound to fade in and
then start that “Men in Black.” I will do the envelope and add
a point here and a point here; then have it fade in through
this whole thing like that. OK, so let’s have a listen.
OK, good, well I like that fade in. So far so good. I know
that I am not going to use all of this section here. So let me
get rid of that, select all the way to the end of that,
edit->delete that part. OK, I am going to cross fade those two
tracks. Let’s name this “SectionA.” OK.
Now I want to bring in my Section B. File->Import->Audio,
section B. Open, with a copy, yes. This one had a little bit
of fade in because the file had that fade in. I move this now
to this area here. Let’s see where I want to place that file.
That wasn’t too bad at all. I think with the fade out of this
section here, that will give me what I need to do. …OK
Let me do just a little bit of fade out. I guess I won’t have
to do a cross fade. Keep that line straight, add another point
here. Then fade out a little bit. That should be pretty good.
I want another A section at the end. I liked what I did here
so well I will just copy and paste that. Just go here and
duplicate that track. OK, then let’s place it where I want to
have it at the end here.
That wasn’t too bad at all. I think with just a fade out of
this section here, that will give me what I need to do… OK.
Let me do just a little bit of fade out, I guess I won’t need
to do cross fade here. …Keep that line straight and add
another audio point here. Fade out a little bit like that.
That should be pretty good.
Now, in this section I don’t know if I want that much fade in
here. Let me instead leave this alone, restore the envelope.
Instead cut this here; edit->cut. Move it again.
I think I want a little bit more of this sound before it comes
in. I am going to do my cross fade right in this area. This
(upper track) sounds pretty quiet. Let’s listen to that again.
OK, that is alright. This (upper track) fades out plenty for
me so I will just use the envelope tool again and I won’t
worry about a cross fade. Let me bring this down a little bit
like that. Let me put another point here….Let me bring that
down a little bit here. Let’s hear that again.
It still sounds a little bit abrupt. I bring that down even
more. Let’s hear that.
I will make that a little quieter. Let’s try that again.
OK, good, alright. I am going to go with that. Then at the end
as it is finishing up here, my idea was to include that alien
alarm.
That is where I want my alien alarm.
File->Import->Audio->Alien Alarm; open. I need to move that to
the end of the track here. Let’s see if I need to fade it in.
OK, well that certainly will be a shocker! Let’s try that
again.
OK, well that is really quite something. I will just leave
that there and I want to fade out that one at the end. Let’s
see how that sounds there.
Alright I am ready to save the project. Save as, let me add
another number. I had an earlier version with “2.” Let’s call
this number 3. Now I need to save the OGG file. Export Audio->
.This time I am going to save this as OGG Vorbis. This is a
compressed file. It should be smaller. I need to put in then
the proper name. My last name first; composition 4. Notice
that Audacity will add the “.ogg” at the end. Quality—5 will
be just fine for this course. OK. I am going to save it now.
It will be mixed down to two stereo channels. That is very
good..OK and I save it like that.
