Mark Andrew Olsen, The
Assignment (Minneapolis,
Minn.: Bethany House, 2004). Paperback, 462 pages. Grade level 10-11.
This is an ejoyable fictional novel. Olsen is a graduate of Baylor University
(the flagship Baptist University in Texas). Here he has given a novel that is
interesting, fun and exciting to read, and yet not offensive to Christian
values. Characters in the book are well
presented and the plot is well written.
The context of the novel is that Lazarus never died and in
fact cannot be killed. He has been
reserved for a special assignment on the earth that only he can fulfill.
The legacy of C. S. Lewis continues to
attract people to Christ through his fictional works. We can hope that Mark Olsen has a similarly
productive career.
